Very small shoe

When I got the shoe ( on-line exclusive ) my first thought was that they sent the wrong size. Everything was marked as I ordered. I'm not sure that two sizes bigger would have fit. It's too bad because the style was exactly what I was looking for.

Much better than prior version

Pros: better insoles, sole improved, better shoe overall, appearance better
Cons: tongue too short, price increased, better insole, better leather appearance
I have been wearing this shoe for at least 10 years every single day. I just bought new ones, and WOW they have done some changing since I last bought them. It has been a while sincce I bought them, since I always buy multiple pairs to save money...
They have recently updated and upgraded the shoe a LOT! The new insole is far superior to the old one, and provides far more support. The only negative I have so far, is that I cannot put my Orthotics in them. The other side of the coin is that I don't think I will NEED my orthotics in them, because they are so much more supportive!
The only drawback I have seen so far, is that they shortened the tongue too much for my tastes. The old style had a tongue that was at least 1-2 inches longer. I may get used to this one, and end up liking it better - but the first week I've been wearing it I'm not as keen on it.
While I am not keen on the tongue, I am really liking the rest of the shoe better than the prior version.

The velcro closures in a non-steel toe work shoe were just what I was looking for and as I trust Payless for quality, I don't worry about the workmanship no matter how nice the cost.
I ordered two pair with the "buy one pair get the second at half price" sale announced in a Payless Shoes e-mail that I opt to receive, directing them delivered for free to my local Payless store. Another e-mail announced their arrival inside ten days. This method I've used before with no problem.
Naturally concerned with getting an acceptabe fit, I tried each pair walking in the store a bit , finding them both good to go. As always the staff was informed, keen and service motivated. The Payless Shoes company has a knack for getting/keeping good staff and I've been to many stores as I state this. I always walk in just to see what's new in my size and the people running the show are always consistently upbeat and well versed in their work.
My new shoes have removable insoles which I love for their easy to clean access and foot support. This helps to keep the shoes sanitary and dry for a longer service life and better foot hygiene. This also allows the replacement of the insole should the need arise, again extending the overall comfort/service life potential of the shoe. The nice thick padded collar around the ankle and the high riding outer sole bonded over the leather upper will make the rough environment of my trucker's work less hazardous and the no-slip soles themselves relate high to my needs too. Nice heavy stitching throughout I've noticed and also grommets line the slots where the velcro straps pass through and then back over the top of the instep to secure a uniform working fit. Very nice!
This attention to detail is easy when you mink-oil your new shoes as I did with these fine work oxfords. I'll put one pair to work immediately and use the other for casual wear. The black pebble-grain polished leather finish is just superb. What a great buy even if the second pair weren't half off!
